We develop Windows and Macintosh multimedia applications
for CD-ROM, Kiosks, or the Internet using Macromedia
Director Lingo and Shockwave. We can work on a project from start
to finish or pick up a project when a programmer quits, is fired, or just needs
some extra help.
Our policy on pricing is actually more of a philosophy.
When pricing a project we give the client a range of hours on a bid (we do no fixed bids).
We view developing New Media projects as a craft and we take a hard look at quality, performance,
and just doing things right. Since
everything is custom, it's difficult to predict the exact costs.
With this in mind, we don't want to create a wagering situation, where the client's goal is to get
more and pay less and our goal is to get paid more and do less. Instead, we bill for
time and materials. If it takes less time, the client pays less, if it takes more time, the client
pays more, but, they get what they pay for, no more, no less. Everyone tends to be happy and if
they want more in the project, they know it will cost them more, then they can make trade offs for
features based on costs.
This has been our philosophy for years. Some clients really want a single price,
so we tell them to plan for the high end of the range. Let them be a hero and come in under
budget on their end... how can you beat that?
Historically, we haven't gone over the top end of a bid unless the project specs change significantly
over the course of a project. Also, from time to time, we come in under the low end of a bid.
Regardless of whether a project spec changes during a project, if costs seem to be getting close to
the high end of a bid, we notify the client and work with the situation. Although a bid has
a range of costs, we still do not guarantee that any project can be completed for less
than the high end of the range.
